Fact of the Day More Information Due to wind and water currents, palm trees have been known to survive in some unlikely places. The coastline of places like Ireland and Scotland has been know to be riddled with the trees due to the gulf stream across the Atlantic Ocean. The gulf stream comes out of the Caribbean and mixes with currents that arise from the western coast of Africa just outside of Ireland. This obviously makes for interesting weather and vegetation. This may also explain why the island nation is completely green. The currents do not only bring warm water, they also bring warn air which blankets the vegetation and condenses somewhat on contact.
