Fact of the Day

More Information

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin spent 22 hours on the moons surface. The third member of Apollo 11, Michael Collins, orbited the moon during this time in the Colombia Command Module. During the 2 hours Neil and Buzz spent walking the flag was placed in the soil. Also, Armstrong left a symbol of peace. A gold olive branch was placed in the dust as well. The seal of the united nations also features an olive branch and an "aerial" view of the earth.

In the Netherlands, Buzz Aldrin revealed that the American flag placed on the moon was not able to stand for too long in the hard soil. He said that it actually fell before they left. [source]
In related news, NASA cannot find the original tapes of the 1969 mission/moon-landing. [source]
