Fact of the Day More Information In 1945, Eric Blair (more commonly known by the name he wrote under: George Orwell) penned an essay called "You and the Atomic Bomb." In it he is warning the people of what he calls "a permanent state of cold war with its neighbors." Orwell wrote Animal Farm in the same year and because of it and its anti-Stalin aura he was on file with the KGB. 1984 was published in 1949.
