Fact of the Day More Information The Mid-Atlantic Ridge which is a range of underwater volcanos and mountains formed by the slow movement of the tectonic plates. Specifically the North Atlantic plate and the Eurasian plate, the ridge is the result of the two drifting apart. Iceland lies on the ridge and is in fact just an exposed portion of the ridge/range itself. Due to the circumstances, Iceland is home to over 100 volcanos amongst its ice and snow.
Saint Helena Island (relatedFAQ) also lies on the ridge.
