Fact of the Day

More Information

It is not possible to sweat from the tongue. Instead, when a dog pants it is simply salivating. When the wind meets the saliva there is a cooling effect. Surely, this is something humans can relate to.
Human sweat glands span the entire body. This is not the case on our four-legged friends. Instead, dog sweat glands are located in their paws. Paw pads, to be more specific, help regulate a dogs body temperature the same way human skin works.
No, a dog does not sweat through its nose. It is nothing out of the ordinary for a dog to have a wet nose. The normal state of a canine nose is somewhere in between clammy and dank. Nose moisture is created by mucus, disgustingly similar to the inside of our protruding olfactory organs. Mucus helps smells stick to the nose and obviously makes dogs phenomenal sniffers.
According to christian legend, it was Noah and his arc that led the dog to possess such a nose. The canine saved all of the other animals by using his nose. In plugging the hole that would have sank the ship, he was eternally stuck with a soaked snout.
