Fact of the Day More Information The Torsalo fly is a type of bot fly. The species seeks out warm blooded animals in which to lay their eggs. Eggs from this fly are small enough to seep through the skin.
Since the bug resembles a bee, it is somewhat noticeable to humans. This has led the Torsalo fly to using a mosquito for egg transportation. By first catching a mosquito, sticking its eggs to it, and harmlessly releasing it to land on us, the fly can effectively spread its eggs into humans.
Once the eggs grow into larvae they have to be suffocated to be killed. Usually an oil or petroleum jelly will do the trick. After this they have to be squeezed or pulled out. Some have spikes on them, making removing them more difficult.
