Fact of the Day More Information This evolutionary trait has confused some scientists. Male peacocks with colorful feathers are more likely to be eaten by predators. Not only do they draw immediate attention, they also inhibit the bird from running at its full potential. The stronger peacocks and the ones more likely to survive in the wild don't seem that appealing to peahens (females).
Peahens are less ascetically pleasing in order to blend in, walk amongst the shadows, and protect their young. Protection of the young in vital to the species survival, especially with so many vibrant males.
