Fact of the Day More Information Djibouti was first inhabited in 300BC. The people who inhabited Djibouti (Somali and Afar) used to trade with Ancient Egypt, China, and India. Djibouti remains a key port even in today's world. Most of the grain supplied to Ethiopoa comes thru Djibouti. The French also saw the potential in this port and eventually controlled it under the French Somaliland name. By the 1930s, the British had Egypt, the French Djibouti, and the Italians had Ethiopia. Today it has its own government.
