Fact of the Day More Information Bacteria is found in water that is not sterile and in ill prepared and/or handled food. The illness is prevalent in foreigners because their bodies have not been exposed and their immune systems have not yet built up antibodies for the said bacteria.
During the early 1500s, Montezuma was in power in Mexico. With the influx of the Spanish their were many cases of of the discomfort. In accordance, the name Montezuma's Revenge comes from the only thing that actually made a dent on the masses of imperialist Europeans.
Unfortunately, the ailment is more common in children. This risk of dehydration is large and should be the main concern if experiencing the "revenge."
