Fact of the Day More Information Women in Switzerland have only had the right to vote and hold office since the early 70s, and even then their were many against the proposal. Many of the German-speaking more traditional peoples of Switzerland opposed the movement. A popular German phrase kinder, kirche und küche(BBC.co.uk), refers to women being constrained to taking care of the children, their church role, and kitchen duties.
